Care & Keeping

Pearls love being worn. The friction from your skin actually helps them stay luminous.

The basics:

  • Wipe after wearing with a soft cloth
  • Remove before water (swimming, showers, exercise)
  • Store flat in your pouch away from sun
  • Restring every 2-3 years with regular wear (normal maintenance)

Note: Anklets may experience more friction than necklaces or bracelets, so inspect the silk regularly for wear.

Sizing

How to Choose

Measure your ankle where you'd wear the anklet. Keep it comfortable, not tight.

Wrap a soft measuring tape or string around your ankle at its widest point. Add 0.5" for comfortable movement. Most ankles fit comfortably at 8" to 10".

Too snug? Your anklet should be loose enough to slide over your foot but snug enough to stay in place.

Not sure? Email us. We'll help you find your perfect fit.

The Démodé Difference

Every piece in our collection celebrates the magic of chance and the courage to trust your journey. We believe in jewelry that tells stories, carries intentions, and reminds you that you are both lucky and brave.

The Heirloom Pearl Anklet is the grounding foundation of our Signature Collection. Hand-knotted using traditional techniques perfected over centuries, it is made to be worn daily, adapt to your changing body, and eventually be passed down to someone who understands its value.

Buy it once, wear it forever, and leave it to someone you love. This is a quiet rebellion against fast fashion, crafted to last a lifetime.

Pearls form when something irritating becomes something beautiful. Your pearl is proof that pressure creates value, that friction transforms, and that you are stronger because of what you have survived.

The Heirloom Pearl Anklet sits at your ankle to remind you that your foundation is solid. What makes you unique makes you valuable. Wear it as a symbol of staying connected to yourself as you move forward.

How to Care for Your Pearls

Keep your jewelry beautiful for generations

View Full Care Guide
Daily Care
  • Last on, first off: Put your pearls on after applying makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions
  • Remove before water: Take off before showering, swimming, or any water activities
  • Gentle cleaning: Wipe pearls with a soft, dry cloth after each wear
  • Body oils are good: Natural skin oils actually help pearls maintain their luster—wearing them keeps them beautiful
Storage
  • Store flat or hanging: Prevents stress on the silk thread (never store scrunched or tightly coiled)
  • Soft pouch or lined box: Keep separate from other jewelry to prevent scratches
  • Let them breathe: Avoid airtight containers—pearls need moisture in the air
  • Cool and dry: Store away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and humidity
What to Avoid
  • Water exposure: Especially chlorine (pools), salt water (ocean), and hot water
  • Chemicals: Perfume, hairspray, cleaning products, cosmetics applied directly to pearls
  • Harsh cleaners: Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaning, or jewelry cleaners
  • Hard surfaces: Don't toss pearls on hard counters or let them rub against other jewelry
  • Abrasives: Keep away from rough fabrics and surfaces that can scratch the nacre
Restringing & Long-Term Care

With proper care, your pearls will last lifetimes:

  • The pearls themselves: Decades to centuries—they only grow more beautiful with age and gentle wear
  • The silk thread: Needs restringing every 5-10 years (normal maintenance for quality pearl jewelry)
  • Overall piece: This is heirloom jewelry meant to be passed down through generations

Your pearls will last lifetimes with proper care. Wear them often—they're meant to be loved, not locked away.
